Hey son! Let’s talk about something that’s sure to make your taste buds sing – dumplings! These little pockets of yumminess can be found in lots of different types of food all around the world. In Korea, they’re called mandu and they’re totally delish.
Now, I know you’re a busy guy, so we’re going to make things easy-peasy today. We’re going to whip up some Korean-style dumplings using just a few simple ingredients and steps. Trust me, it’s going to be so easy you’ll be able to make them all by yourself!
So, let’s get to the good stuff. These dumplings are typically stuffed with tasty fillings like ground pork, kimchi, galbi, bulgogi, veggies, or cellophane noodles – but we’re going to keep things simple for now. I’ll show you how to make a Korean-style dumpling with just a few ingredients that will taste great, even though it won’t take much time or effort.
The best part? These little pockets of yum can be cooked up in a bunch of different ways – steamed, fried, boiled – you name it! And if you’re in the mood for soup, I’ve got you covered. Later, I’ll even show you how to make mandu-guk – a Korean soup that will warm you up from the inside out.

Dumpling Ingredients
- 1 lb Ground beef (pork, chicken, meat substitute, etc.)
- 1 Pack of tofu
- 1 lb Chives (same ratio as meat)
- 1/2 tbsp Ginger
- 1 tbsp Garlic
- 2 tbsp Soy sauce
- 3 tbsp Oyster sauce
- 1/2 tbsp Sugar
- 2 tbsp Sesame oil
- Pepper
- 2 Packs of dumpling wrap
Dipping Sauce Ingredients
- 2 tsp Soy sauce
- 1 tsp Rice vinegar
- Chilli powder
Instructions
- Put the tofu in a cheese cloth and squeeze out the water.
- Put tofu, meat, chives, garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, sesame oil and pepper in a bowl and mix all the ingredients well with your hands.
- Put the filling in the middle of the dumpling wrap. Use water around the edge. Fold in half and squeeze edges so that the filling does not come out while cooking.
- Put wrapped dumplings in a steamer and steam for 10 minutes.
Now let’s make the dip!
Add soy sauce, rice vinegar and chilli powder into a small dish.
Ta-da! Easy peasy!
Mom’s Tips
Make as many as possible at one time. When you’re done, put them on a flat tray so that they do not touch each other. Then put them in the freezer for about 30 minutes. When the outside of the dumplings are frozen, put them in a zip lock bag and store them in the freezer.
